October 11, 2015 – Bestselling author and internationally known scholar Carol S. Pearson will speak about and sign copies of her new book, PERSEPHONE RISING: AWAKENING THE HEROINE WITHIN, at three Colorado bookstores in the next week. The events have been planned in conjunction with the book’s October 13th publication as a lead title by HarperElixir, a new imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

The schedule for Dr. Pearson’s appearances is as follows:

  • October 13th: Tattered Cover Bookstore, Aspen Grove, 7301 S. Santa Fe Dr., Littleton, 7:00 to 9:00 pm
  • October 16th: Macdonald Book Shop, 152 E. Elkhorn Ave., Estes Park, 2:00 to 4:00 pm
  • October 19th: Boulder Bookstore, 1107 Pearl Street, Boulder, 7:00 to 9:00 pm; co-sponsored by the Boulder Friends of Jung

PERSEPHONE RISING is a revelatory modern manifesto that speaks to the heroine in every woman, and to the numerous men who live and/or work in partnership with them. It offers readers potent strategies—drawn from the archetypes inherent in the ancient Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone—to forge lives of greater happiness and fulfillment. The book illuminates age-old wisdom for a modern audience, showing readers how to answer the call to heroism in their own lives: to locate and harness the unique potential within themselves, and ultimately to develop their own innate heroic gifts.

“Colorado is the most appropriate place to mark the publication of PERSEPHONE RISING,” Dr. Pearson said, “because that’s where the book has its origins.” As she reveals in the book, the ideas in PERSEPHONE RISING were inspired by events that took place early in Dr. Pearson’s career, when she was a faculty member at the University of Colorado Boulder and the founding director of its Women Studies Program. At a time of great professional success and personal fulfillment, she experienced a tragic loss; the story of Demeter and Persephone comforted her then, and has continued to be a source of guidance and inspiration since.

After leaving CU, Dr. Pearson held faculty and administrative positions at the University of Maryland, Goucher College, and Georgetown University. Most recently, she served as executive vice president and provost and later president of Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA.

In addition to her work as an author, Dr. Pearson now is a speaker, workshop leader, and educator in private practice, best known as an expert on the applications of myth, archetypes, and narrative to contemporary life and work. She also serves as a thinking partner for leaders and leadership teams applying her work to their organizations and their professional roles.Among Dr. Pearson’s other books are The Hero Within and Awakening the Heroes Within, both of which are being issued with new covers by HarperElixir on October 13th in combination with the publication of PERSEPHONE RISING; The Hero and the Outlaw (McGraw-Hill); and The Transforming Leader (Berrett-Koehler), which last year won a major award from the International Leadership Association.

Dr. Pearson also is the co-author, with Hugh Marr, of the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator® (PMAI®) instrument, which measures archetypes active in individuals and is designed to help people understand the mythic stories that do, or could, provide a means to success, fulfillment, and clarity of values and purpose.
