Carol Pearson, Author, Academic, Archetypal Scholar
In many indigenous traditions, a person seeking answers to questions would approach a medicine manor woman sitting by the fire and ask what they should do to resolve their dilemma. He or she classically would respond to this request by saying, “Let me tell you a story.” Moms, dads, mentors, and friends can do this, too…. In new situations, often what is needed is a new story that can help supply a map for the new journey and a toehold when that journey feels like climbing up a steep and dangerous mountain.

The Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator® (PMAI®) is the world’s first scientifically validated archetype assessment tool. It opens a window into the patterns of our unconscious stories and provides a path to self-understanding. Once we are aware of the archetypes that are active in our lives, we can decide how and when to use them, and which ones may need nurturing or further development.
Taking a psychometrically sound instrument that points to possible archetype activity provides a framework and method to understand and valuable objective information about the possible roles of archetype-related characteristics in an individual’s life. In conjunction with self-reflection, other information, and—if desired—professional consultation, PMAI® results can offer insight into what archetypes may be active, in the shadows, awaiting expression, idealized, and/or in line with or in contrast to the archetypes in one’s milieu.
To learn more about taking the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator® (PMAI®), published by the Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT), visit StoryWell, the home of the latest version of the instrument.
When you purchase an administration, you can choose between the Core Report or the Expanded Report. Your results come on your own My StoryWell page, which you can read online or download. The StoryWell website provides a wealth of information on archetypes and how they affect the story you are living.
