Revolutionary

Revolutionary individuals are most fulfilled when they can change something that they feel needs to be changed. Often unconventional thinkers who can develop new, cutting-edge approaches, they enjoy challenging the status quo and motivating others to think differently. They’re usually excited and challenged when they can take on tried-and-true methods or ways.

What You See or May Not See: Revolutionaries are seen as actively working to reform social systems of all sorts, and for being advocates for such changes. Inside, the Revolutionary may be quietly critiquing everything that happens, identifying unhealthy attitudes or habits and working to let them go, or letting go of lesser things to gain something better.

Revolutionary organizations often are very successful at developing truly radical ideas, products, and services; leading reform of all kinds; and/or serving as the contrarian voice that pokes holes in old verities, like “this is how we do things here.”

Revolutionaries may need to be careful about coming across as reckless, shaking things up endlessly/needlessly, being judgmental, and becoming stubbornly oppositional.

Subtypes include:
  • Destroyer: The former PMAI name for this archetype; destroys what is to make way for what could be
  • Troubleshooter: Sees problems/drawbacks/defects in current ways of doing things and determines how to improve them
  • Rebel: Lives/thinks outside the bounds of conventions and/or takes action or risks without waiting for others to agree/catch up
  • Initiate: Sacrifices the ordinary to gain something better; often is devoted to the divine or a deeper state of consciousness
  • Challenger/contrarian: Questions the tried and true; presents opposing points of view
  • Radical: Fights against the present to make way for a desired future
  • Game-changer: Initiates radical innovations that change the rules of the game or the realities of the marketplace
  • Outlaw: Disobeys laws and harms others or just adopts a bad boy/bad girl image
